I believe the most useful technology options for seniors with hearing loss would be the smoke detector with LED flashing lights vibration. We have a resident in Independent Living who cannot hear anything once she takes her hearing aides out at night.
There are many technologies that would not only be helpful, but increase the safety of our residents. I think the central alert cell phone ringer would make their quality of life better if they are able to more easily communicate with their loved ones. Technology for those with hearing loss can help reduce the residents’ dependence on others and allow them to be more independent.
Technological advances have allowed ways for residents to better communicate with others which allows them more independence and dignity. The most important thing to remember is that no two people are the same. The best way to meet our residents’ needs is to get to know them individually in order to find out what works best for that person.
